The first Monday in May is officially over! The 2023 Met Gala red carpet has officially been completed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year, the annual affair honored the exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The gala celebrated the legacy of Lagerfeld—the late developer who drove fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, and his own eponymous line—and increased funds for The Met’s Costume Institute. The Met Gala, even known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising occasion for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Just as momentous as the exhibition, of the system, is the star-studded red rug splendor that took place as guests made their way up the renowned Met steps. After all, the Met Gala—often anointed the “Super Bowl of fashion”—has made some of the most amazing (and viral) celebrity red carpet looks from the past decade. This year, the A-list attendees were invited to dress “in honor of Karl”—meaning we saw some business costumes that paid tribute to Lagerfeld’s design autographs, including his Chanel tweeds and his own black-and-white livery.
This year’s administrator Met Gala co-hosts were attending, including Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour.
